Once again, greetings from this 81 year old woman who has "never" had any problems with her gut. Because I was born way before "ultra-processed" food was created I am not addicted to it as so many younger people are today.
In my day, coming from a family of fabulous cooks, pretty much everything was made from scratch. Most food back then was organic, long before the word came into vogue. We all, to this day, continue to cook and eat healthy food. None of us, going back to my grandparents, ever had problems with our guts.
I've been a health researcher for decades. I even published a book about reversing the aging process which highlights what we feed our body and why.
Today, my gut is as healthy as it's been over the course of my life; regular bowel movements, my perfect stools are a sight to behold which means I'm feeding my body correctly. Our bodies talk to us given the state of our health; that includes what our lower register is telling us, so pay attention to the signs that can cause lifelong threatening problems.
Eat real food; lots of fiber, fresh fruit and vegetables, minimum sugar and salt. Keep your body hydrated with water, not sugary drinks. It's not rocket science, it's educating yourself about food and health. It's choosing wellness or sickness we age. We choose those things.
My granddaughter knows more than most adults do about how her body works and what to feed it.
I wish more attention to healthy eating was taught in schools, from kindergarten through college.
The corporate food scientists love that you young-uns are sick, addicted to their food (which makes the billionaires richer and y'all sicker). They should be in prison.
Thank you again, Dr. Hussenbux for educating so many about this important subject.
You are a living example of what good gut health means. Simple and sustainable choices! So pleased to hear your story. Sadly you are in the minority….hence my small attempt to spread some awareness!!
One of the biggest gifts from my mother was teaching me about nutrition. So for me, rarely processed items, no fast food, sodas or sugary anything is the norm. Eating organic food along with other healthy habits has kept me out of the doctor’s office. I say this humbly, because I learned to cook from a very young age thanks to my mum, and that’s where it begins.
Appreciate your pointing out that we cannot always achieve certainty. "...but if you are looking for a black and white answer..you won’t get it here." I also appreciate your advice to your readers that "they do not have to perfect." Very balanced presentation!
We must remain optimistic doctor. When I turned fifty, after smoking cigarettes for 32 years, I quit (cold turkey)and It changed my life. I was addicted to nicotine as was most of America back in the early 1960s. The tobacco barons like today's food barons, fought tooth and nail to keep the health information from us. It wasn't until I began reading what the nicotine was doing to my body, did I quit. Today my lungs are as healthy as they were when I was seventeen and started to smoke.
I come across more and more people like you who are putting the truth around unhealthy food out there. It doesn't help to have a government who takes funds away from programs that help with this subject.
I believe, as with nicotine, we will have health warnings on unhealthy food products as happened with cigarettes and alcohol. Society can only take so much given deadly health implications; they reach a tipping point. Hopefully my grandaughter's generation will have healthy guts because they don't want to suffer the health implications which happens from eating these toxic foods.
I know a 59 year old man.who, several years ago, had IBD which resulted in the removal of his large intestine. He will wear an ostomy bag for the rest of his life. He will suffer poor health forever.
I have access to an in-depth medical article that would scare the bejesus out of anyone just as I was scared to dealth when I finally researched the affects nicotine was having on my body.
I'd like to share that article here but not without your permission, or send the article to you and you can proceed with what to do with it.
When we understand the implications of our choices, choices that can dramatically impact our life, it can often be an enormous wake-up call.

Brilliant to hear Diane!

Before I wrote the article I genuinely thought the answer would be clear cut! Thanks Dr Kirsch as always
