Another fine piece! Great photo of melenosis. I have always been skeptical of the ‘dogman’ that instructed us that stimulant laxatives can lead to impaired bowel function. I don’t think we have convincing data on this point. Perhaps, the declining bowel function is occurring naturally and is not caused by the laxatives that these individuals take. Well done!

Great post, once again. With magnesium being such a popular supplement these days, I have a lot of patients who come in taking milk of magnesia (Magnesium Hydroxide) and also magnesium citrate in capsule or tablet form. What are your thoughts on these laxatives?
